βοΈ With a heatwave hitting most of the PNW this week & next here are some great tips to help keep your furry family members cool & safe! Just like us they’re susceptible to dehydration & heatstroke so we need to help them stay safe and cool when the temperature is rising. π₯ππΎ
Protect your pet from dehydration and heatstroke by ensuring they have constant access to fresh clean water π¦ and ample shade, never leaving them in parked vehicles π or any enclosed space without proper ventilation π¨, protecting their paws from hot pavement πΎ, and limiting exercise when the temps or humidity are high. βοΈ
Heatstroke is an emergency π¨ that requires medical intervention as soon as possible! π
Signs of heatstroke in pets can include:
•Dehydration: Vomiting and/or diarrhea; dry, sticky gums; excessive panting; loss of skin elasticity π΅
•High heart rate π
•Body temperature over 104 degrees π‘
•Collapses or seizures β€οΈπ©Ή
If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke, follow these steps and call us (or an emergency vet) IMMEDIATELY. π
•Move them to a cool, shaded area π³
•Pour cool (NOT cold) water over their body or use a wet towel to cool them down π§½π¦
•Provide fresh, cold water π§
